Overview
Throughout the years, The Skin Deep has provided a safe, non-judgmental space for real conversations thanks to the Emmy Award winning {THE AND} project. With over 1000 filmed videos, our library holds a great diversity of interactions from all over the world.
“If you’re wondering about…” is a video series that collects moments about specific topics that were talked about within our deep catalogue of conversations. The vision of {THE AND} is to build a catalogue of humans expressing their experiences and what it means to be in relationship with one another in the 21st Century. We believe there is something to learn from everyone, and that one’s life experience shared can be medicine for another, and vice versa. Thus we are proud to share with you moments pulled from our {THE AND} library that reflect exploration around a particular subject or situation.
In This Episode
Different sets of brothers share what makes their bond unique and how their relationship dynamic has developed over time.
VIDEO
As we explore new perspectives we invite you to step into the emotional space of connection and experience the deeper lessons that shared experiences can afford humanity. To everyone who has participated openly and vulnerably in our project - we appreciate what you have shared with us and hope others do as well.

because you're my brother
Because you have so many traits
I admire that you have them.
I admire that you embrace them.
you are so committed to your family.
like shit so much as kids.
And you still love me back.
because I'm a very resentful person,
as you can tell from this conversation,
the fact that you're not like that
and that you show me so much love
despite everything I did to you,
it just makes me love you more.
I can actually tell them everything.
And you're the one person
that I can actually be myself.
What the fuck I did wrong.
If I fucked up in a relationship,
because you tell me when I fuck up.
when I need to pick up my shit.
You don't let me fail. It’s, uh...
of friends that tell me they love me,
but they don't check up on me.
what's going on in my life.
what's going on in my life.
You give me a lot of advice
And for that, I love you, dude.
And you're like my best friend, man.
more than you actually think
emotionally and physically.
You've done so much for me
that I'm going to be grateful for
We're fucking kids, dude.
get better every day, man.
being your younger brother?
I could ever wish for, or anybody
you still... are the best.
Or I don't think there's a way
Is that unconditional love
like at certain times we really sync in.
if you wasn’t my brother,
actually I love everyone on the planet,
but for you, I love you because
the conversations that we have
and you inspire me every day.
And the only reason- like you really do
because the things that you do
for this community because I'm not-
I worked at the community center
I'm not going the extra step to actually
to do all the things that you're doin
You inspire me, you’re my brother
and the conversations that we have.
If this were to be our last conversation,
you never want me to forget?
If this was our last conversation,
That I'm always here for you,
No matter what you're gonna do.
if this was our last conversation,
I would want you to know that
you can do anything, anything,
anything that you put your mind to.
anything that you put your mind to when
you love. - You work hard for it.
You love- when you love first.
When you work hard and when you give.
If you have that formula,
you can do anything in the world.
And that's- if there's anything
If there’s anything I could teach you,
it would be that with love,
you can accomplish anything.
You're like a father figure,
When do you feel closest to me?
on one conversations and dinners.
the first thing I think about is
that we can have that interaction?
And it's just a special time. And I
you know, one of the things
between the intense execution
against work and actually living.
And I just haven't developed
in the kind of relationships
But it's so important to me
to do it with you and- - Yeah.
So, you know, having this one
and then it's funny in a similar way,
although it's not personal
and it's sort of a kind of a spoken word,
or just like physical experience.
So sports and play and whatnot,
because when we go, it's sort of
you build this bond with somebody.
When you go through shared of,
running as well as happens in particular.
So I think in both those contexts.
Because you're in. More pain than I am.
Yes. It’s funny, I remember when we ran,
it was, I think your junior year,
I think I beat you. - This is in high school.
I can’t remember but yeah.
You ran in like a 17. 12. - So painful.
You hadn't run in like two years. - Oh, so painful.
And I was like, what the fuck?
Like, why is my brother beating me?
I was so pissed. Oh, my God. - I couldn’t lose.
Yeah. - But it was a great run.
I mean, I never would've run that fast
without you running that fast. - Yeah.
annoys you that I'm not aware of?
Oh, just being yourself, to be honest.
Nah, oh man. It's got to be...
You've got to use your phone more
Oh! - You've called me like twice.
You've called me twice in like a month.
I must be doing pretty good then, that’s so good.
Oh, no, when we're like...
It's hard. - Too many to pick from, honestly.
Just your smile is really annoying,
I don’t know, it’s something about a smile. Just really annoying.
Yeah, that's actually funny.
How do you describe me to others?
Like first impression type of thing?
Yeah. - I'd say, Oh, my brother.
Super outgoing, super weird.
I don't think you're weird.
I don't think you'd be weird
to new people right away.
I've seen that you aren't, but
So, like, it's fun. It's fun.
Like, he's got a weird humor,
he says, it's like what I-
Yeah. I mean, I don't know.
The last time someone's like,
Oh, what's your brother like?
You don't tell people about me?
Well, if they ask, I will.
Walking around telling people about me.
Hey, hey, my brother's great.
How’s it going? Let me tell you about my brother.
No, but he- I'd say, yeah, he's.
He's super artsy. Creative.
He's got a very out of the box
obviously I don't tell random
my brother thinks in a different way
than you would like... I used to say-
he's really outgoing, he's welcoming
and he's entertaining to be around.
Positive things. No negative things.
You don't ever say anything bad?
Smelly, sometimes you’re smelly. - Smelly?
sometimes describe you as an asshole.
He’s kind of a dick, but he's great.
